'Reine des Violettes'Old, Hybrid Perpetual, Mauve, Repeat Flowering
This is a very old and popular rose that is classified as a hybrid perpetual (whatever that is?) but really looks like a bourbon rose. It is medium tall, very full and almost thornless. It is covered with dark violet flowers that fade to lavender with quartered petals and a button eye. It is very fragrant and although the flowers don't last long, the abundance of them make up for their short life cycle. They drop their petal and leave a rather lovely, romantic mess around them. The leaves are shiny green, small and disease resistant. As lovely as her name sounds.
Purple flowers fade to violet.
Abraham Darby Rose Bush
'Abraham Darby' Modern, English Rose, David Austin
This is one of my very favorite roses in the garden and you can tell because I plant one or two more bushes every year. It grows rather tall here, often towering to six or more feet. But the blooms are to die for! Large, cupped blossoms with what seems like a thousand petals of soft apricot-pinkish color, the color of the inside of a seashell. And the fragrance is intoxicating! A true indulgence for the senses! I'll bet it even tastes wonderful although I've never given into nibbling on a petal! Good resistance to disease.
'Buff Beauty'Modern, Modern Shrub, Repeat Blooming
This is truly a wonderful rose, often grown as a climber or pillar rose. A lovely color, scent and relatively desease free with dark green pointed leaves make this a rose that should be in every pastel rose garden. one of my very favorites! This picture was our wallpaper on our home computer for ages! I love it!
